I am curious. The law prohibits falsely claiming to have received military decorations. Clearly that law prohibits falsely claiming to have received the Purple Heart, the Congressional Medal of Honor, the Silver Star, etc.

As written, does it also prohibit claiming to have received military decorations that do not even exist? Suppose I am at a bar, and I try to impress a woman by saying that for my valorous service in the Army during Operation Wimbledon, I was awarded the Distinguished Service Return medal? Am I in violation of the law? I need to know, because this is the sort of bullshit I habitually come up with, allegedly.
